Following sustained growth over the past decade, underpinned by a broad commitment to excellence and innovation, the space sector contributes £11.8bn per year to the UK economy and employs 35,000 people. The UK commands a 7% share of the global space market and has ambitions to increase this to 10% as the global market swells to a predicted value of £400 billion by 2030. The UK provides a supportive and innovative environment for companies to succeed in international markets and there is a growing entrepreneurial space community at the UK Space Gateway in Harwell Oxford with regional growth hubs across the country. As well as 40 space-based start-ups, the Harwell Campus is home to the Satellite Applications Catapult, RAL Space's state-of-the-art test facility and ESA's new European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications (ECSAT).
