Prizes Regional Organiser Regional Partners Winner

Prize 2016

The prize offered by Romania's regional ESNC competition consists of:

  • 1000 EUR to be awarded to the winner of the competition (provided by CS ROMANIA)
  • A 1 month payed internship at the Siemens Convergence Creators center (accommodation included), in order to give insights to the winners about the space sector business
  • Both the winner of the regional competition, as well as the runner up, will benefit from access to technical facilities, technical consulting experts in implementing their ideas (provided by ROSA and UPB) and technical support (provided by ROSA). Furthermore, UPB offers the possibility to participate in a consortium with the winner in R&D related projects on E-GNSS.
  • Business coaching, assistance in identifying potential commercial partners, support in accessing public/private financing, business development support and consultancy for SME/start-up/spin-off development provided by ARoTT.
  • The winner will also participate to the ESNC 2016 Awards Ceremony (travel and accommodation covered by CS ROMANIA within a maximum amount of 500 EUR).

Regional Organiser
The Romanian Space Agency

Established in 1991 and reorganised in 1995 as a public institution within Romania's Ministry of National Education, the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) develops the National Space Programme and coordinates its implementation through research projects and space applications. It also has the authority to establish its own research and development centres. Meanwhile, ROSA serves as the lead organisation of the Programme for Research, Development and Innovation STAR (Space Technology and Advanced Research) and represents the Romanian Government in international cooperation programs such as the European Space Agency (ESA), the United Nations (UN) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). Led by Dr. Phys. Marius-Ioan Piso, president of ROSA since 2004, the agency carries out its own research and development projects through the ROSA Research Centre.

University "Politehnica" of Bucharest - Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology (UPB-ETTI)

The University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB) is one of the oldest and one of the most important Romanian technical universities. The Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology is one of the largest faculties of UPB. Every year more than 500 students graduate from its Bachelor, Master and Doctorate programs, with diplomas recognised worldwide. The Bachelor studies are organised in four study programs: "Applied Electronics", "Technologies and Telecommunications Systems", "Networks and Software for Telecommunications", and "Microelectronics, Optoelectronics and Nanotechnology". The Master studies are organised into 20 research directions. The Faculty, seen as a powerful research center, has some traditional main research directions and other highly innovative directions. The institution is strongly involved in international and national research projects, in association with industrial and public companies and foundations.

Siemens Convergence Creators SRL was founded in Brasov, on October 1st, 2001, initially named Siemens Program and System Engineering SRL and starting the its activities as a subsidiary of Siemens AG Austria. The business laid its foundation on fixed and mobile telecommunications and offered various services which covered the entire value chain: consulting, development, integration, support & service.
In close cooperation with the Transilvania University of Brasov, the company rapidly developed in the international business environment. Siemens PSE SRL has contributed to the activities of the research and development division - Siemens PSE ever since 2001, by providing technical know-how for the development of corporate products and services, and has successfully become a part of the division's knowledge network.
Every year, between 2002 and 2006, the business almost doubled its volume and number of employees, reaching a better positioning and growth on all business lines: mobile & fixed telephony and software & hardware development.
In 2010, Siemens PSE SRL was integrated into the global CVC (former CMT) division, with a proven industry domain expertise, corporate culture and customer-orientation. In 2012, Siemens PSE changed its name into Siemens Convergence Creators S.R.L. and became an affiliate of the Siemens Convergence Creators Division (CVC), part of the Siemens Group.
In 2013, Siemens Convergence Creators SRL started its activities in the space domain, focusing on Mission Control Systems (MCS), Electric Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and Earth Observation topics with a strong heritage of know-how in telecommunications, software development and testing technologies for various vertical markets.

Romanian Association for Technological Transfer and Innovation (ARoTT)

The Romanian Association for Technological Transfer and Innovation is a professional organisation of non-governmental and non-profit units involved in technological transfer and innovation. Its objectives include promoting and protecting business environments for entities (incubators, business parks, etc) that deal with technological transfer and innovative business in Romania; promoting its members' professional interests; strengthening the professional authority of its partner entities and their social prestige; and helping its partners become more competitive through innovation and a strong technical foundation. The ARoTT's members comprise associations, private organisations with legal personality, for- and non-profit entities, and academic organisations.
