Austria is a small, landlocked country of roughly 8.47 million people in Central Europe. Austria has a well-developed social market economy and a high standard of living. Over the last 10 years, Austria's investments in research, technology, and innovation - the driving forces behind sustainable increases in the performance and competitive potential of any society - have led to above-average growth. This positive trend can in turn be attributed to an increase in R&D spending. For Austria, space technologies ranging from telecommunications, transport, and security to environmental and climate research are a key point of interest. The benefits the country enjoys as a result are not only scientific, but also economic in nature: Austrian companies are successful international players supplying top technologies for infrastructure and application development solutions.
